The JSOA administers three scholarships:  The Merit Scholarship, the Wounded Patriot Scholarship, and the North Carolina Patriot Scholarship in partnership with the Patriot Foundation.  The scholarships have different funding sources and eligibility criteria. The Merit and Wounded Patriot Scholarships are awarded once per year. Applicants that fill out the JSOA scholarship application who are qualified for the North Carolina Patriot Scholarship awarded twice per year – in Spring and Fall – will be notified via email to fill out a supplemental application on the Patriot Foundation website when it becomes available.  Applicants may receive both the merit and either the Wounded Patriot or North Carolina Patriot Scholarships.

The application deadline for the 2024-25 JSOA Merit and Wounded Patriot scholarships has passed.  Please check this website in December 2024 for the 2025-26 JSOA scholarship application.

The application window for the North Carolina Patriot scholarships is September 1-30.  Please go to https://www.patriotfoundation.org/nc-patriot-star-family-recovery-scholarship-program for more information.  Priority for these scholarships is based on application date.

 

Merit Scholarship Requirements:

  • Current High School Senior / Full-Time Undergraduate College Student

  • Dependent child of a current JSOA member

  • Pursuing degree/certification completion as a Full-Time Student at a post-secondary accredited institution

Wounded Patriot Requirements:

  • Current High School Senior / Full-Time Undergraduate College Student/Full-Time Graduate Student

  • Dependent child of a current JSOA member

  • Pursuing degree/certification completion as a Full-Time Student at a post-secondary accredited institution

  • Sponsor has a Purple Heart or Disability Rating > 30%

  • Applicants receiving a North Carolina Patriot scholarship are not eligible.

​North Carolina Patriot Requirements:

  • Current High School Senior / Full-Time Undergraduate College Student/Full-Time Graduate Student​

  • Dependent child of a current JSOA member

  • Pursuing degree/certification completion as a Full-Time Student at a post-secondary accredited NC institution

  • Sponsor and child are residents of North Carolina or sponsor is stationed in North Carolina.

  • Dependent child of a sponsor with a Purple Heart or Disability Rating => 50%
